My name is phil and I have been a marvel fan boy since I was 10 years old so almost 40 years when I was in junior high school spiderman 252 came out for those of you who do not recall this was the issue with the first appearance of spiderman s black costume I went looking everywhere for copies of that book 7 eleven comic book stores everywhere was sold out at the time the marvel offices were located in the san fernando valley on van nuys blvd as I recall this was right around the time there was a devastating fire at the marvel offices and certain issues were harder to come by being a resourceful 13 year old I decided the best thing for me to do was to call marvel and ask them if they would be willing to sell me an issue of spiderman 252 the lady I spoke to was nice enough as I explained my problem she asked me to hold suddenly a familiar voice came on the line it was the same one I heard narrating marvel cartoons on tv it was stan lee himself I heard you were a big fan of spiderman he said I m sorry but we don t have the book you were looking for but I m going to send you a care package for being a fan excelsior he took the time to speak to me for several minutes I was so impressed that he would be interested in speaking to me about a week later I got a fat envelope in the mail that contained about a dozen books including a marvel newsletter that was signed an autographed to me from one spiderman fan to another at a time in my life that I felt invisible he noticed me he made a difference to a kid he never even met because he took five minutes out of his own life to care stan lee gave me that gift 30 years later it so happened that my wife would be meeting with stan lee she works for disney and I asked her to tell him the story and thank him I was hoping for a you are welcome instead she got the trademark smile and that was a great story I hope he got his book I did mr lee thank you for remembering that with great power comes great responsibility thanks for making a difference thanks for the great story excelsior.
